Frequently asked questions
Are the fees just for one class?
No. The fee covers the full HypnoBirthing programme. It includes 5 classes (15 hours in total), taught once a week over 5 weeks, with each session lasting 3 hours. The programme also includes guided practices, learning materials, and support throughout the course to help you integrate what you learn.
How much are the fees?
Group class: RM1,480. Private class: RM2,900 per couple (at the instructor's venue).
Additional charges may apply for locations other than the instructor's venue.
When is the best time to attend class?
Generally the earlier the better but as some people experience tiredness or morning sickness in the first trimester, we usually suggest attending class as early in your second trimester as possible when you feel most energetic then. By attending class early, you will have plenty of time to practise the various techniques we teach in class so that you can have your easier, comfortable birth.
If I attend class too early, I might forget?
Sessions are taught so that you implement the practices in your daily life. You can also contact your instructor (via WhatsApp) for any questions you have. If you really need a refresher (within the current pregnancy), you can contact your instructor for a free refresher by sitting in on subsequent groups provided there is space.
Can I attend some sessions online and some physically?
When you register, your selected dates become your primary schedule. Parents who opt for a hybrid format cross-reference our published physical and online class schedules to attend specific sessions.
While Class 1 must always be completed first, subsequent sessions can follow whichever format best aligns with your timeline across the two schedules (for example: Class 1 online, Class 3 physical, Class 2 online, Class 4 online, and Class 5 physical).
For those considering hybrid, Class 3 and Class 5 are especially beneficial to attend physically due to the hands-on techniques practised in person. Please note that hybrid arrangements are subject to seat availability and must be coordinated directly with the instructor.
My Estimated Due Date (EDD) is less than 5 weeks' time, is it too late for me to attend class?
It is never too late to attend class. HypnoBirthing does not take forever to work. From the first class, HypnoBirthing already works in eliminating a lot of the common fears and misconceptions about birth. The lack of fear is an important factor in a comfortable birth experience.
What if my partner is unable to attend all/some classes? Should I still attend?
Yes you should still attend the class as you are the one birthing your baby, not your partner. Whilst we highly encourage partners to attend as many classes as possible, it is most important that the birthing person be fully prepared. Birth partners are taught how to support and encourage you in class so you can share what your partner has missed. Alternatively you can discuss with your instructor about doing a special private session for your partner just on the birth companion role (extra charges apply). But do not let that be the reason for not attending class altogether. It is better for one person to be prepared than for both to be unprepared. We sometimes have mothers attend classes alone and have wonderful births.
Do I have to attend all five classes?
It is best to attend all 5 classes as each class touches on different topics. Should you have to miss any class, you can replace it for a fee to conduct a replacement class or for free by sitting in a subsequent group provided there is space. Please discuss with your instructor.
Can I just buy the book and self study at home? Why attend class?
There are many advantages to joining a live class, be it in-person physically or live online class. Many mothers join classes after they have read the book because they do not quite understand some of the techniques described in the book. Nothing beats seeing your certified HypnoBirthing instructor demonstrating these techniques and guiding you in achieving the proper methods. There are many extra scripts and tips shared in class that are not in the textbook like the Fear Release session which is a very powerful session designed to help parents let go of their inner fears about parenting and birth. Besides, it is a lot more fun learning with a group of parents with similar EDDs.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a normal and natural state - a change in our brain wave activity that each of us experiences throughout the day. Everyone has been driving in a car, intending to stop at the grocery store on the way home, and suddenly finds themselves pulling up to their home.... that is hypnosis. When you're watching a movie, reading a good book, and you lose track of time, that is hypnosis.
Will I be unconscious or will I remember my birth experience?
Despite misconceptions and misinformation, you are definitely not unconscious during self-hypnosis. When having your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will be conversant and in good spirits — totally relaxed, but fully in control. You will be aware of your body's contractions, but will be able to determine the extent to which you feel the surge. You will experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain. Your body's natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that cause pain. When it is time for your baby to be born, you will be fully awake and involved.
Will HypnoBirthing be useful if I choose to use epidural or other painkillers, or if circumstances necessitate medical intervention or caesarean birth?
Absolutely! In your HypnoBirthing classes, you learn relaxation skills that are so useful to both you and your baby, regardless of your birth experience. In the event that medical intervention of any sort is needed, you will find yourself better able to remain calm and in control. Mothers who needed scheduled caesareans for medical reasons or elective caesareans report that they were totally relaxed before, during and after the procedure. Many report that they needed little or no medication following the birth for pain relief, and they were able to return to normal functioning in a very short period of time.
Is it true that I will experience a pain-free birth with HypnoBirthing?
HypnoBirthing does not promise painless birthing, though many HypnoBirthing mothers do report having a relatively pain-free birth or one that they were able to manage easily. When the cause of pain—fear that constricts the birthing muscles—is eliminated, birthing can be accomplished in a shorter period and much more comfortably. A relaxed mother's body will produce more endorphins, nature's own relaxants and painkiller. HypnoBirthing mothers may still experience sensations of tightening or pressure; but most describe their birth experience as working with their body through the sensations and thus avoiding the excruciating pain that is frequently spoken of by women who choose other methods of preparation for birthing.
What if my doctor doesn't support HypnoBirthing?
HypnoBirthing gives you tools to stay calm, confident, and informed throughout pregnancy and during birth. Many parents practise it regardless — and use that clarity to advocate for their preferences and choose care that aligns with them.
How is the Birth Companion involved?
The Birth Companion of the mother's choice is an integral part of the HypnoBirthing experience. He or she practises with the mother in helping to prepare for deep relaxation. During labour the Birth Companion guides the labouring mother through hypnosis prompts, relaxation techniques, deepening methods, and visualisations, provides comfort measures, and joins in welcoming the new baby, often by receiving the baby as he emerges.
How does HypnoBirthing differ from other childbirth preparation methods?
Unlike other childbirth methods that teach you how to cope with and manage pain, HypnoBirthing is based on the premise that childbirth does not necessarily need to be painful if the mother is properly prepared and relaxed. When women understand that pain is caused by constrictor hormones, created by fear, they learn, instead, to release fear thus creating endorphins—the feel good hormones. They are then able to change their expectations of long, painful labour and are able to replace them with expectations of a more comfortable birthing. Rather than exhausting, shallow breathing and the distraction techniques of typical "prepared childbirth" programmes, HypnoBirthing parents learn deep abdominal breathing and total relaxation, enabling the labouring mother to work in harmony with her body and her baby. This allows her to achieve a shorter and more comfortable labour for herself and baby.
What if I am unable to make it for one of the sessions?
When you register for classes you would have chosen the best fit schedule for you. If you missed a class for whatever reason, you are allowed to sit in the next group class schedule of the missed session (given there is available space). Please make sure to check with instructor. It is on your initiative/prerogative to attend classes.
Can I do a refresher?
If it's the same pregnancy, you can sit in on a later group for free when there's space. For a later pregnancy, you can retake the full group course at 50% off. Message me and I'll send you a refresher promo code.
When should I start a HypnoBirthing course?
As early in your second trimester as you feel energetic, so you have plenty of time to practise. It's never too late, though. Even with less than 5 weeks to go, the course still helps.
Can HypnoBirthing help with a VBAC?
Yes. Many VBAC and VBA2C families take the course to understand their options and reduce fear from a previous birth. I also support VBAC births as a doula.
Cancellation policy
Group Classes are intended for small settings, this allows the educator to teach and maintain quality of attention to each individual. Private Classes timings are arranged just for you. When you sign up for this Course, you have chosen the schedule that best fits your preferences. The spot is reserved just for you and your partner. All sessions are conducted live to create an immersive and effective learning experience that cannot be duplicated through recorded sessions, which is why we do not indulge in providing recordings. A cancellation or missed class leaves a hole that could have been filled by another couple. Therefore:
1. All Course fees are non-refundable.
2. No refunds made for missed/cancelled classes.
3. No pro-rated fees will be applied for missed class(es) - the Course fee applies to the entirety of the programme and services provided during the course period.
Rescheduling policy
1. Private Replacement Classes – In the event of a missed class, a private replacement session may be arranged at a fee of RM300 per session.
2. Replacement in Ongoing Schedules – Participants who miss a class may request to join a replacement class from another ongoing schedule without any additional fee. Participants need to check for availability before attending.
3. Postponement by Instructor – Due to the nature of the Instructor’s work as a doula (serving birthing clients), classes may occasionally require postponement. In such instances, the class will automatically be rescheduled to the following week unless alternative arrangements are communicated. Such postponements are rare and all reasonable efforts will be made to avoid them. (Note: This typically occurs twice per calendar year.)
